Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can we use an outside caterer for our event?
A: No, we have an in-house caterer, Canapés, who is our exclusive caterer.

Q: Is all seating included, regardless of our number of guests?
A: No, seating for 70 guests is included in the Facility Rental Fee. Additional seating (tables and chairs) is an extra charge, depending on your seating arrangement.

Q: Do you have handicapped access to all buildings?
A: Yes. All access into buildings is wheelchair friendly. Bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. In addition, we use golf carts to take guests who have difficulty walking to each location and from the upper level to the lower level of the main lodge.

Q: How long can we use the facility on our event day?
A: The facility rents for 8 hours; additional time may be purchased if needed, on or after the event date.

Q: Can I use an outside vendor for our wedding cake?
A: Yes, cakes can be purchased through other vendors and brought to the facility.

Q: Do you suggest that all our guests drive to ThorpeWood for our event?
A: This depends on the client entirely. However, we strongly suggest that you rent buses through our preferred vendor, Bowen Bus Service, and have a bus or two pick your guests up from a central location or hotel. Bowen will provide to return shuttles, one early and the last one later in the afternoon/evening.

Q: What about parking for those of our guests who do decide to drive?
A: We have ample parking for guests. Our lodge lot can park 25-30 vehicles and we have an additional lot across the street for overflow parking. Our 22 passenger shuttle bus will transport guests to and from the lot across the street.

Q: Are the caterer’s fees included in our ThorpeWood contract?
A: No. Our exclusive caterer, Canapés, will have a separate contract for you.

Q: Can we bring our own food to our wedding, instead of using the caterer?
A: Not usually. Sometimes clients have specialty foods that they would like to use for appetizers and this can be worked out with the Canapés. Otherwise, any foods offered to your guests, other than the aforementioned cake, must be provided by Canapés.

Q: Is there a bad-weather location to move an outside wedding in the case of rain?
A: Yes, although we do our best to provide an outside location (in April-October), there is always a backup plan. If there is a threat of rain or showers, we will normally move a ceremony to our pavilion location. If it is very stormy, we would move the ceremony into the main lodge in front of the fireplace.

Q: Since there is no air conditioning, during the summer months does it get very warm in the lodge?
A: In that the building was constructed with green design, the building remains quite comfortable throughout the year. We do suggest for outdoor weddings/events during the warmer months that the start time be later in the afternoon and not mid-day.
