Our mission is to serve at-risk youth and increase the likelihood of their success through long-term, outcome-based, customized academic support and personal development programs in partnership with their schools and youth organizations. ThorpeWood is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

  • All of ThorpeWood’s programs and general maintenance of our 155 acre property.
  • Our Southwest Baltimore Charter School partnership increases the reading level and family literacy competence of second through fourth grade African-American boys.
  • Our Department of Juvenile Services partnership provides Frederick County’s adjudicated teenage girls with the skills necessary for them to address histories of abuse, neglect, trauma, poor choices, and chemical dependency.
  • Our Heather Ridge School partnership provides vocational training and intense mentoring to some of Frederick County’s least successful teenage boys.
  • Our Antietam Academy Middle School partnership provides self –advocacy, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills to Washington County middle school girls who are transitioning from an alternative school setting back to their home school.
  • Our West Frederick Middle School partnership allows high ability level but low-achieving middle school students to demonstrate their potential by working on large scale research projects with subject matter experts from the community.
