Green Design at ThorpeWood

The design, construction, and maintenance of residential and commercial buildings have an enormous impact on our environment and natural resources.
Building in a sustainable manner offers the opportunity to create environmentally sound and resource-efficient buildings. As the U.S. Department of Energy explains, "green buildings promote resource conservation, including energy efficiency renewable energy, and water conservation features." While green design seeks to minimize environmental impact, it reduces operation and maintenance costs, creates a healthy and comfortable environment, and addresses issues such as historical preservation.

The challenge is to improve our building patterns by considering atypical and sustainable construction designs at the outset.
As a not for profit organization serving youth, local and regional communities, ThorpeWood models stewardship of natural resources and provides environmental education through hands on learning. Our main building and grounds offer examples of sustainable design to instruct and inspire.
